About Mrs. Knox
Hello and welcome! My name is Sarah Knox. I anticipate using this blog as a means to reflect on my own practice but also to share resources and encouragement to other educators and families. I am currently a stay at home mother of two.
The 2023-2024 school year was my third year of teaching prekindergarten in South Kansas City, Missouri. I graduated from College of the Ozarks in May of 2021 with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. After graduating, I received my certification in teaching both Early Childhood Education (birth to 3rd grade) and Elementary Education (1st through 6th grade).
- I love to travel from the beach to the mountains, and anywhere that is fun and exciting or old and historic.
- My husband is my go-to person for everything. We have a very fun and sassy toddler and had our second in January 2024.
- I live for iced coffee all year long.
- My family, friends, and faith are what make me who I am and how I engage in the world around me. Without the support of those I love and rely on, I would not be able to do everything I do.
Teaching Philosophy
The purpose of education is to teach young people a variety of content to enhance their thinking skills, communication skills, social skills, and technology skills. With these tools, they have the potential to become well-informed citizens and to have a desire to learn. Student learning occurs in several different ways and is affected by many variables. Teachers can teach in just as many ways as students learn. I believe that the best way for students to learn is for teachers to meet them where they are in their skills and scaffold them with as many opportunities to respond to the learning goal as possible.
I also believe that students need a positive and safe environment that encourages them to share their thinking, ask questions, and engage with new material. For me to create a positive environment that encourages learning, I must check my attitude, maintain a growth mindset, and be enthusiastic. My enthusiasm should be about my students, their learning successes and failures, and my content. I celebrate the success of student achievements; even if it is a small victory, the student has still succeeded.
